How do I treat a possible fungus (white spots) on my arms and legs?

They are flesh with the skin, not raised, not dry or flaky. The spots are approximately the size of a kernal of corn. Sometimes itchy. How do I treat a possible fungus (white spots) on my arms and legs?
The fungus is likely candida albicans (yeast). There is some basic info about it on www.hufa.org, which is good to know because it can develop into a systemic condition (ask me about mine).

My white spots are not itchy, and I am assuming they are depigmentation (vitiligo). I am on a candida cleanse regimen of diet and herbal supplements and vitamins. I am also diabetic. I understand that candida grows better in bodies that have some sort of imbalance (endocrine, immune, etc.)How do I treat a possible fungus (white spots) on my arms and legs?
You see i have the same thing But all my doc said it was a fungal infections.

If not raised spots, it's called, ';Vitiligo.'; It is a skin condition and there are theories of how people get it. It could be an oveactive thyroid, known for onset of stress and hereditary. It is a common skin disorder known as Leukoderma in which symnatrical white or pale macules appear on the skin. I have it too and so did my 2 younger brothers.

Just look up Vitiligo and it will tell you what meds are available/treatments.
There is a fungus that causes white spots on the skin. It is harmfless except for the not so nice looking white spots. It can be treated with certain chemicals such as miconazole and clotrimazole. Their application can remove the fungus in a couple of weeks but the discolouration can take a few months to go away. Also a single dose of ketoconazole can cure it but same the white spots will remain for some months. This fungus usually affects the back, neck and chest, and in some people the arms.
My husband and his sister and our daughter has them on their arms and legs. They are called seed warts. They are nothing to worry about unless they become raised. Then they are skin cancer. My husband can scrape his off after a shower. He has had the raised ones removed because the just get bigger and become painful. They were squamous cell carcinoma when they got big. It is a type of skin cancer that if left untreated can get into your blood stream and attack your other organs. The Dermatologist uses nitrogen to burn them off until they get bad enough to cut them out. If caught early then they don't have to be burned off. It is from too many hours working in the sun over 20 years. But the seed warts he was born with. See a dermatologist or your family physician or the health dept.
Sounds like Tinea Versicolor. Easy to get rid of but the white patches may look white until your tan fades. Some easy over the counter remedies are using selsun blue shampoo on the areas, lather up and leave it on for 5 minutes every time you shower. The fastest way to treat the areas is with a prescription fungus cream, it is usually applied 2 times daily for 6 to 8 weeks and then the scaling on the areas should be gone. Dermatology is a visual field so make sure you see a doctor who can diagnose you correctly, white spots can be a bunch of different things so just remember that nobody can diagnose you without looking at the spots.
I have the same thing and I can't seem to get rid of it. Let's hope we get an answer for this problem. And yes, it is fungus, I had it biopsied and that is what they said. Plantar Lichen, that is what I think they said it was. Good luck!

How long does athlete's foot fungus survivie on hard dry surface?

Just wondering how long it survives if someone with athlete's foot has stepped barefoot around the house, particularly on hard dry surfaces. How long does athlete's foot fungus survivie on hard dry surface?
From what I have read, I don't think the fungus can survive long on hard dry surfaces. The website below, compiled by doctors, suggests going barefoot at home to help get rid of athlete's foot, so I guess the risk of spreading it that way must be regarded as minimal.

http://www.patient.co.uk/showdoc/2306868鈥?/a>

Incidentally if you are having trouble getting rid of athlete's foot, try neat tea tree oil. I had a ringworm (which I understand is a related fungus) on my hand a few weeks ago and it was resistant to two creams prescribed by the doctor and athlete's foot cream, but tea tree oil cleared it up no bother.

What are the dangers of foot fungus? is it dangerous if it gets in the air ?

And i think my bed is contaminated since i twist and turn at night,

i'm washing my bedsheets.

Now my body is feeling itchy, can foot fungus cause that ?What are the dangers of foot fungus? is it dangerous if it gets in the air ?
Not likely the cause of your itchy body.I do know that after touching your foot with your hands you should never touch your genital area - because fungus likes to live in damp dark places. After showering wipe your feet last and put the towel in the laundry . Use Tinactin or something to kill the fungus.

  • What can I do for this fungus in my fingernail?

The fungus is starting to eat at my fingernail, and is going underneath it where I can't reach it too. I know it's a fungus because a friend had the same thing happen to him and he has to take something for it. Does anyone know what will heal this up that isn't too expensive? What can I do for this fungus in my fingernail?
A good home remedy or should I say remedies are Listerine or vicks vapour rub soak finger in either of the products daily and it will kill the bacteria that is causing the fungus. I know it works. What can I do for this fungus in my fingernail?
How is a fungal nail infection treated?

Several medicines can treat a fungal nail infection. Some of these medicines are not safe for people who have liver problems or a history of congestive heart failure. Be sure to let your doctor know if you have one of these conditions. Your doctor will decide which medicine is right for you.

You might only need to take the medicine for 6 weeks. You might need to take it for 6 months, or longer. It depends on where the infection is and how bad it is.

Topical treatments, or creams and polish that you apply to the top of your nail, are also available. Topical medicines alone usually do not cure nail infections.
well, dont take anything for your fingernail not prescribed. go to the doctor. there was once this commercial to help that....its the one where the fungus lifts the fingernail and crawls inside it...then it turns yellow, and it makes it all better with the medicine
Go to the doctors and they will prescribe you some antibiotics. You should clean them regulary with a gental soap and some warm water. It works. Good luck! :)
Well, if you haven't told your parents I would tell them...........but if you have i would recommend a Doctor. If you I am sure he will have something to do with that fungus
I had the same thing happen to me with on of my acrylic nails, it came loose from my natural nail and developed a slight fungus. I went to my nail salon and bought a product called Fungus Fix, I have been using it twice a day for about two weeks and it is much better. Although if it is extremly bad this may not work it may take a doctor to heal it. This is just a suggestion. The cost is around 16.00.
THE REALLY ISN'T ANY TOPICAL (ON THE SURFACE) YOU CAN REALLY USE.THE ONLY THING THAT WILL CLEAR IT UP IS LAMICIL.THE DR HAS TO GIVE IT TO YOU.YOU WILL ALSO HAVE TO GET BLOOD TESTS EVERY SO OFTEN TO MAKE SURE THE MEDICINE DOES NOT HAVE A BAD EFFECT ON YOUR LIVER.
Go to a nail salon. They sell a product to use at home.
Vicks Vapo Rub works very well

How do I get a mushroom/fungus problem out of my Green Anole Tank?

I have four green anoles, two males and two feamales in a separet tank so the guys dont fight. In one side, It is completely clean of fungus, but on the other I keep getting these little white mushroom things under and above ground. I keep removing them and they keep coming back! How do I get rid of it and will it effect my anoles? How do I get a mushroom/fungus problem out of my Green Anole Tank?
I am not sure if you have a glass tank or not, but glass with a screen top with clips is best. I have had several types of reptiles, (anoles, tree frogs, tiger salamander, gecko). When I would do a full clean up of the tanks I had gotten special tank cleaners from the local pet store they usually carry it in fish or reptile section. Sorry cannot remember the name, but if you ask they should know what it is, also the product does not carry any chemicals that can harm your pets or linger in the tank. Your tank maybe too moist on the one side and dark or not enough ventilation or heat for their basking areas are suppose to be 85F to 90F and day time area temps 72F to 82F rest of tank, it's hard to tell. Now I know green anoles are suppose to have some humidity, so maybe an overhaul of your tank is need or a new tank. Hopefully this will help a little. How do I get a mushroom/fungus problem out of my Green Anole Tank?
The problem will usually occur because of the humidity, which they need. The only real way to completely stop the problem while keeping the humidity is to change the substrate more often so it doesn't have time to grow. The substrate should be changed every 2 weeks. Usually that doesn't give it time to grow. If you are changing it every two weeks try occasionly shifting the substrate wround by stirring it with your fingers and not getting the substrate quite as damp. As long as your humidty is over 70 they should be fine. It doesnt have to be 90 or anything.

Should I take my plants out While Treating my tank for Fungus?

I have a small amount of fungal growth in my tank. I have live plants, should I take them out? It doesn't say on the bottle if it is safe for plants or not?Should I take my plants out While Treating my tank for Fungus?
Definitely a good question but no you shouldn't. Although it seems like it would be a bad idea to medicate the plants taking them out would be worse when you uproot them. Also plants do not take in medicine the way we do so unless there is repeated exposure they should be fine. Good luck!Should I take my plants out While Treating my tank for Fungus?
Fungus in your tank or on your fish? If it's just in your tank it may be hair algae which should go away on its own once phosphates normalize. Or it may be this white stringy stuff that grows on driftwood, your fish may eat it and either way it doesn't harm them. I've never heard of treating fungus in your tank with medication... only fish, and if you have a fish medication that you're adding without it being needed that's a VERY bad idea. Any chemicals you add can harm or kill your fish, so I suggest not adding it. Scrape the fungus off by hand.
That is a good question. I am currently treating one of my tanks for fungal infections, but it hadn't occurred to me to take plants out first! Having said that, even if you removed the plants, any fungus could still remain on them, so probably not a good idea to put them back in the tank anyway, imo. But what would I know? I'm a relative novice at fish-keeping. Good luck
i would definitely take them out. some medications are harmful to plants. if you planted the roots well in a small plastic container and let them grow there then removing and replanting them will be a breeze. and to the other question the guy ask earlier fungus staying on the plant, well fungus grows on a specific environment removing the plant and flushing and letting them stay with safe clean water for 3-6 hours max (preferably a day old chlorine free) will weaken the fungus eventually killing them when you put them back in the tank. hope that helps :)

What is ammonia and how does it kill bacteria such as fungus?

was ammonia from urine ever used as a medicine for this?

    when ,where and why?

Thanks for your answers! What is ammonia and how does it kill bacteria such as fungus?
ammonia is NH3 ( one nitrogen and 3 hydrogens ). Just to clarify bacteria is not the same as fungi two completely different kingdoms. As far as I know ammonia is usually toxic to a large amount of organisms which is usually why it is removed from the body. It will have different effects on different organisms, I've never heard of it being used as a medicine, not to sure. What is ammonia and how does it kill bacteria such as fungus?

Is there a permanent toenail fungus cure?

I have attempted to get rid of toenail fungus using various remedies: Penlac, TeaTree Oil, other nail fungal topical treatmnts. I have not tried the oral pills due to the doctor's advice that they can damage liver, they are expensive and not 100% effective. The best remedy I have found is soaking my feet in vinegar daily, which works very well. Can anyone tell me what they have used and has worked? Thanks. Is there a permanent toenail fungus cure?
Go to a Podiatrist, (foot Doctor) and get a medical soak

for your feet.Is there a permanent toenail fungus cure?
If Penlac didnt work, and you really want it gone, the pills will have to be the way. Tell the Doc you really want it taken care of and put up with the liver tests (blood draws) for a few months. The problem is that it can come back in the future.

They have a daily pill and one that is taken the first week of every month. They are both rather expensive.

How do I fight what appears to be some sort of fungus on my tomatoes?

I have guessed this to be some sort of fungus. How can I save my remaining tomatoes? How do I fight what appears to be some sort of fungus on my tomatoes?
Too much water and no drainage on the pots will cause blossom end rot..after treating the soil..make sure the ots have drainage..I put coffee filters in the bottom of my pot grown veggies then take about an inch of gravel and put over the filters..this allows drainage/plus keeps the soil in the pot from washing out..also make sure the pots are not sitting on bare concrete or wood..for the water cannot drain properly that way either..put some brick chunks under the pots to keep them raised..3 chunks will balance bbetter than4 evenly spaced....How do I fight what appears to be some sort of fungus on my tomatoes?
    My wife sprays with kelp.
There are numerous, organic aids and sprays but what is most important is that your plants receive good air circulation.

Please, trim off every single leaf, or stem that does not have buds or fruit by now. Anyhting you see wilting and sick, cut it off too. You will basically peel that stem bare, except for the flowers and fruits. Once you do that, let the air move through and you'll see that the plants will be much more healthier!

Keep them standing upright, in a cage or attached to a stake. That way, it could rain each day and you'll have no worries about fungal infections. Good luck!

PS: Like someone mentioned above, brown spots on tomatoes could reveal a calcium deficiency. You can spray some calcium that you can get at your local nursery, and/or feed some bone meal
try 7 dust on them it helped mine
If, by ';underneath'; you mean the bottom of the tomatoes, you are experiencing ';blossom end rot'; and it's not a fungus, but rather a systemic problem that usually affects the first tomatoes of the season.

    Look at the entry on our blog entitled ';Why are my tomatoes turning black?';

Good Luck and Happy Gardening from Cathy and Neal!
    Get a harmless anti-fungal spray!
If your saying the tomato itself is brown and mushy, you have a calcium deficiency in your soil.

Go to your local home and garden center and ask for a calcium booster for your soil (and you want liquid). The tomatoes already growing you may not save, but the future ones you will.

Note: Some garden supply stores know this condition as being called ';blossom end rot';.

Is it possible to nurse back Indian Hawthornes that have a fungus or should I just replace them?

I have four that have turned yellow with some sort of fungus. Unless someone can give me info on how to bring them back to life, I am thinking that I will just replace them. What do you think? Is it possible to nurse back Indian Hawthornes that have a fungus or should I just replace them?
Yellowing of your Hawthornes usually indicates lack of iron or nitrogen. I would first trim back just slightly and then apply a fertilizer high in nitrogen or just straight Iron. These can be picked up at your local nursery.

A fungus is usually white in color and rarely turns the plant yellow. If the plants are over 20 years old I would replace them. You should be watering them about 3 times per week about 15-20 minutes each time on a drip watering system

Is there a non-prescription method for getting rid of toenail fungus?

I have a toenail that is infected and I can't afford a prescription. Is there a home remedy for getting rid of it?Is there a non-prescription method for getting rid of toenail fungus?
Try regular Listerine. Apply it on and under your nail with a q-tip 2-3 times daily. It should clear up a mild case within a week or two.Is there a non-prescription method for getting rid of toenail fungus?
I just read peroxide will help. If it is an infection. If it is a fungus I read to mix water and peroxide half and half spray on feet and let dry two or three times a day. Bonus peroxide is only a dollar or so at any pharmacy, or discount store. If it is an infection just pour it straight on the infection and let it bubble. I have not tried this myself yet. Good luck.
No......there isn't. Creams won't work, sprays or powders won't work either. The only way is to treat it internally, with the Lamisil tablets......which as you know are very expensive. The normal recommended dose on these tablets (for toenail fungus) is one tablet a day for 12 weeks. I was on these pills for 5 months....it was starting to go away, but then it came right back. I was then told then sometimes people have to be on it for almost a year.....just to let you know. Hopefully in the future, the cost of this medicine will go down, so we all can afford it. Best of luck to you.............
I was told to put Vicks VapoRub on and under the affected toenail for a few weeks. The fungus is supposed to go away.
Try an over the counter medicine. Or try putting Tea Tree Oil for several days.

Does anyone know a really good, holistic way to control nail fungus?

I have a friend who continually battles with this and really hates to use manufactured ';drugs'; to deal with it.

So, she asked me about it, because I am the type who tries not to use any more drugs than absolutely necessary. The thing is, I just haven't happened to have any experience with this particular issue.

So, if anyone could give us some insight into something we could try, that would be awesome. Particularly if you know of a way to do it with ingredients we might already have around.

Thanks for your help!Does anyone know a really good, holistic way to control nail fungus?
Hi animal lovers, I also always been an avid animal lover for as long as I can remember.

For your a friend a really good a thorough examination by her doctor, but ... my advice a treatment... you may be good assistant.

    1. Tea tree oil is a potent natural antiseptic and fungicide that will help fight with her fungus. Apply undiluted tea tree oil with olive oil to the affected toe nail. Alternatively you can put few drops of tea tree oil on toenails and rub it thoroughly every day.

    2. Soak her toes in Listerine mouthwash. The powerful antiseptic leaves her toe nails looking healthy.

    3. Soak her toenails for 15 - 20 minutes in basin full of warm water and natural apple cider vinegar mixed in equal proportion. When done, dry her toenails thoroughly. Use a hair dryer on warm setting to absorb all the moisture in and around the toes.

    4. Put equal amount of tea tree oil and lavender oil on a cotton ball or swab. Dab it under the top edge of the toe nail and surrounding area 2 or 3 times a day. Tea tree oil is natural antibiotic and lavender will help fight the infection and prevent skin irritation.

    5. Blend 2 drops of Oregano essential oil with a tsp of olive oil. Apply this mixture on the on toenails area daily for NOT more than three weeks. Oregano essential oil has antiseptic, antibacterial, antiparasitical, antiviral, analgesic and antifungal properties.

    6. Until the growth of the new nail is complete, apply apple cider vinegar 2 or 3 times a day.

    7. Lather AHA creams onto her feet before going to bed. This will flush the rough scaly skin from her feet that is more prone to growing fungus.

Treatment is not difficult, your friend can conduct this by itself,

Vick's vapor rub is really good for nail fungus. Reccomended by podiatrist. No joke.

and it was gone in 2 days.

im sure nail fungus is very simialr
I'm sure you don't think over the counter remedies are holistic, but Vick's VapoRub will get rid of fungus. I have personally seen it work and I have read about it in Dr Gott's newspaper column. Rub it into infected area twice a day for a few weeks.
MSM and GrapeFruit Seed extract are both anti-fungals. They can de diluted in water to soak with, as well as taken internally. Don't take Tea Tree oil or white vinigar internally, though! Also treat socks, shoes, slippers, %26amp; bedding. White vinigar is probably the cheapest to use for this purpose. Try to always keep the feet dry between bathing. Dry out the shower/tub between use, keeping the floor dry also. Treat these areas, too, as fungus thrives in moisture, %26amp; you might keep picking it back up from there if it hasn't been eradicated.
Tea tree oil. Just make sure you get a good quality oil. Not all of them are pure and the way they are processed is important.

Young Living and Melaleuca have the best oils.
Tea Tree Oil...it is very inexpensive and you can get it from a drug store. I t is used to get rid of many types of fungus any where on the body.
Tea Tree Oil, you can buy it about anywhere will get rid of a fungus of any type. I had a nail fungus in one nail and went to the DR last week and he told me that Tea Tree Oil along with soaking my fingernail in white vinegar for about 15 minutes a day will cure it.
I was told to soak nail (feet@hand) in vinegar. I know, sounds gross but does work. I can't remember exactly what the ratio is to water lol I use it straight out of the bottle. Healthy nails to you

How do I clean internal fungus from a lens?

I have bought a an old prime lens off ebay and if has fungus under the from element, is this easy to clean, is there a way that I can remove the front element and clean it?How do I clean internal fungus from a lens?
First, lens repair is not a ';do it yourself'; project. Repairs will have to be done by a trained camera/lens repair tech.

Unless the Seller told you about the fungus in their listing you should return the lens. Re-read the listing and if there was misrepresentation then file a claim with eBay.

If the lens is a rare one, perhaps an f1.2 or f1.0 or a perspective control lens it might be worth repairing.

    If its a garden-variety 50mm f1.7 or f1.8 it really isn't worth repairing.

Of course if its a Leica prime lens or Hasselblad or Mamiya medium format lens it might be worth the cost of repairs.

As ZTM said, the carbon in your filter should suck the coloring out. If you don't see an improvement in the clarity within a few days, replace the carbon. You may want to replace the carbon weekly until your water no longer holds the yellow tinge... Email me if you have any questions.

Soop NaziHow long will it take for the yellow color to fade from my 10 g tank after adding fungus eliminator?
Are you sure your carbon works? If the yellowness doesn't clear up in a couple hours, then the carbon isn't working. I'd suggest to buy new carbon and see if the yellowness will clear up.

  • My Bermuda lawn has fungus, so should I water in the fungicide, or just spread it and leave it?

This is my first time to deal with Bermuda. Help!My Bermuda lawn has fungus, so should I water in the fungicide, or just spread it and leave it?
    Read the label.

Bermuda has very few problems other than shade issues.

Take a sample of grass where the problem is active to your nursery, not Home Depot or Lowes.

Problem is often times a lack of nitrogen.

ASK first before you spend a lot of unnecessary money.

Now go drink a beer and then dig up a sample. My Bermuda lawn has fungus, so should I water in the fungicide, or just spread it and leave it?
Bermuda grass is the heartist grass I have ever come across. The only problem I've seen is shade or having it go dormant when temperature falls. If I were you I would'nt worry too much. Fertilize on schedule and water early mornings and it will resolve itself.
Read the label. It always depends upon what product you have.
It depends on what product you're using. Read the directions for application on the product label %26amp; follow them. Don't worry too much. I've been trying to kill Bermuda grass for years as it's invading my flower beds %26amp; haven't been 100% successful yet.
You will eliminate the fungi problem by watering early in the morning. If you are watering at night or in the evening, the grass will not absorb the water (needs sunlight) and will sit and mold.

It's used for several things one of which is powdery mildew. that usually affects the leaves with a haze of fungus on the leaves.

Most garden centers have it.Is a thick white fungus or mold harmful to my garden hedge? Is it a danger to me?
If you have fungus on mulch, it is a sign of healthy soil. Mulch is meant to decay into soil, and fungus is part of the process. If the fungus is on the hedge itself, it is a problem. Some plants can shrug off a fungus infection without help, others need fungicide.

Is it harmful to you? If you have leaves and woody stems, it might be; otherwise, it won't hurt you. Plants and animals have different bodies, and we get different diseases. I don't advise eating it, however.
I have no asnwer to your question yet your answer to my question did seem to intrigue me, I have one more question you spoke of how I have yet to figure out legaly how to make 10 times more the amount which i make right now and not work, I like to work personaly it gives me self gratification for that day if I do a poor job I am not so worried about the bosses yet my own self worth, yet I would love to be able to find a job which if needed I had that spare time because from what i understand it must be somewhat of an important job which just maybe I would be Reconized and rewarded for my achievments struggling as a cook right now enrolled in school wishing that one day I will be satisfied in the work i do and it deffinitly is not throwing food on a plate

How can I prevent my shower curtain from getting mildew/fungus?

My bathroom hasn't got any ventilation and my shower curtain is made of a plastic kind of substance(I don't know what you call it!). Even though I straighten my shower curtain after every shower, it collects mildew/fungus kind of substance and has got black spots all over. I am not sure if I can wash it in the washing machine. Any help will be appreciated. How can I prevent my shower curtain from getting mildew/fungus?
fill up the bathtub with water and some bleach (make sure it won't ruin the color on your curtain first) and soak your curtain in there. Maybe in the future try using one of those shower sprays that you can spray on the walls and curtain everytime after you shower. also they sell anti-mildew liners now.How can I prevent my shower curtain from getting mildew/fungus?
Wash your shower curtain in the washer with a load of towels. Also Clorox has a new bathroom cleaner......I keep a bottle in the shower (we have glass doors though). Spray the shower curtain after you shower, make sure there's ample ventilation in your bathroom.......by opening a window a bit or running the fan.
Everyone has the right answer. But if it's already spotted black I wouldn't bother as often if the bleach cleans it it also lightens it. Just get a new one %26amp; put it in the washer every month or so.

I also have a small bath with little ventilation. There's a small stick up (by airwick I think) that you can stick on the wall that's great. Since the toilet is at the far end I stick it there. Whenever I clean or there's a bad smell I push it %26amp; a mist comes up. Then I close the door. Within minutes it has the whole bathroom smelling fresh. I use the powder room scent because it's not overpowering like the others and it lasts for a month or better. It's the best $4. I ever spent. I love it.

Another good idea is to have a hanging or potted plant in there. They thrive on %26amp; draw out the humidity and so you don't have as big of a problem.
Bleach is and always will be the best cleaner. Since its plastic just soak in a 20% mix of bleach and water. This will kill everything. To keep it clean buy a empty spray bottle ($1 at Wal-mart) and fill it with a 10% mix. Spray occasionally.
Straightening it out is a good start, but unless you are removing the moisture from the room--like with a vent fan, run for at least 20 minutes after your shower--you are going to get mildew.

Fortunately, it's easy to wash a plastic curtain or liner. Put it in the machine with 1/2 cup of bleach and 1/2 cup of baking soda. Run it through a normal cycle. During the rinse add one cup of white vinegar. Let it spin out and take it out. It will look like a mess-- all wrinkly-- but the wrinkles will fall out as it hangs. Hang it back up and it will look brand new.
To clean the curtain: You probably can wash it in the machine. Set it on gentle, and use warm water, detergent, and Oxycleen, which works miracles on most everything. Put some other things in the washer, like sneakers, or at least some towels, to help the washing process.

To prevent mildew: that's harder. I'm surprised the bathrm doesn't have ventilation. I thought the building code in most cities requires either a window or an exhaust fan.

Anyway, you could try running a fan in the room after you shower. Dry yourself off first so you don't get electrocuted! Keep the bathroom door open for a few hours. Shake the extra moisture off the curtain and make it hang outside the tub. There are also shower sprays you can use after you shower to keep mildew from building up.
Yes! Works great. Run it through the washing machine (add some clorox) and its as good as new. (Don't put it in the dryer).
plastic shower curtains can be washed in the machine ..i dont think you will get the mould spots off you one ..maybe invest in a new one and wash it regular
I put mine in the washing machine on normal cycle and comes out pristine, hang immediately to prevent crinkles.
This is the problem , you have no ventilation, but not that it would help much, it happen麓s sooner or later. You can wash most shower curtain麓s in your machine , but it won麓t rid the mildew. The sun kills of mildew, and lemon juice added to the stains , then exposed to the sunlight will help. I have plenty ventilation in my bathroom, but the same thing happened to my shower curtain. I spend so much money on buying new ones, in the end I had shower door fitted. Easier to clean, and saves money
    Hllo lav yo
Just take the curtain down, put it through the washine machine and when you use it next, pull out the curtain so that it can dry.

ALWAYS leave the bathroom door open after a shower if you don't have a window.

Mildew/mould simply cannot survive in the face of ventilation and heat.
Put the shower curtain in the washer once a week.
    spray it down with bleach.
you can get a mildue spray from a supermarket (i got mine from sainsburys but any one will probably sell it) the cheapest online i have found is at the screwfix website

its 拢4.49 for 1 or 拢23.94 for 6 (not that you will need 6)

    its at http://www.screwfix.com/app/sfd/cat/pro.jsp?id=95861
put in the washing machine on a low heated wash or just take the curtain down and clean it by hand with a mild bleach mixed in water
Yes you can clean it in the washing machine. Saw it on TV once and i tried it and it worked. Just pop it in the washing machine with biological washing powder as the enzymes in it will help to clean it, with a squirt of bleach in the drawer as well. Pop a couple of old towels in the washing machine too, as this helps when they rub against it in the wash, and it should come out nice and clean. Hope this helps!
I have had the cheapest shower liners and more expensive ones, and I have always washed them in the washing machine. Just wash both the liner and the curtain together (even your window curtains if you have) on gentle cycle, warm water. And when they are done, hang back up in your shower (they will dry while hanging). :)

What is a good over the counter remedy for nail fungus that really works?

I would prefer something that is made of natural ingredients. What is a good over the counter remedy for nail fungus that really works?
I've never had nail fungus, so I can't tell you it will work for sure. But, I have heard anecdotal stories of grapefruit seed extract being used for nail fungus. I never bothered to question how it was used. It is inexpensive, so it would be worth a try before resorting to something more expensive.

I would definitely try it if I had nail fungus, and this is what I would try: Get the liquid form and dilute it about 10 drops in 3 oz of water (that's double the strength we usually use for yeast and bacteria). Soak the nail in it about 5 to 10 minutes.

GSE is an antibacterial, anti-fungal, anti-yeast treatment. should be in every medicine cabinet for sore throats, ear infections and yeast infections anyway, so you won't be out anything getting it. I don't see why it wouldn't work, since it is antifungal - just not my usual use for it. Health food stores carry it, or http://www.iherb.com (which has the best prices on it, and I'm not affiliated). What is a good over the counter remedy for nail fungus that really works?
I haven't tried it myself but white vinegar is supposed to work. Put two drops of vinegar at the growing base of the affected nail every day until the diseased nail has grown out completely. This can take months to happen but it is supposed to be more effective than any over the counter or presciption medicine. Tea tree oil also works but it is much more expensive. I've also heard people having good luck with household bleach but it can cause other problems if you spill it.
I have used Tea tree oil. You can brush it right on the nail. It works. It's also good for nail growth.
Straight Tea Tree Oil %26amp; Vicks Vapor Rub
I've also read that Vicks is very effective. It may take awhile, but it's a cheap way to get rid of the fungus.
I have used regular Vicks menthol rub get a toothpick and stick the vicks under the nail (it doesnt burn) Do this everyday and it will turn black or dark brown and then it will clear up. I read it in a book and my mom tried it - it worked for her. Good luck

  • How to clean and rid a fish tank of a fungus?

My daughter bought a new fish tank and instead of buying new pebbles she just got some out of the garden, washed them and put them in the tank. A few days later it starts growing this white (like pearls) fungus all over the rocks, plants and tank. She will also have to clean the filter. How to clean and rid a fish tank of a fungus?
find the cleanerHow to clean and rid a fish tank of a fungus?
Hi Dolphinesqe, You need to remove the fish to a holding bucket of treated water that is the same temperature as their tank. If the bucket is not going to be constantly watched you may ned to cover it with some 'breathable' material such as netting or a grill as fish are good jumpers.

You need to clean your tank %26amp; filter carefully but thoroughly with a solution of white vinegar. Rinse thoroughly with luke warm water %26amp; repeat using a salt solution [don't use table salt]. Finally rinse all items %26amp; the tank with clean, fresh water. Avoid using any soaps or detergents on anything in or connected to your tank-you can never completely remove it %26amp; it will kill your fish.

You can now redecorate your tank with safe rocks [see below], install the filter %26amp; all the other decor %26amp; finally half fill the tank ensuring the water is the same temperature as that in the holding bucket %26amp; gently replace your fish. It would be advisable to use the water in the holding bucket to top up the thank.

the problem with using stones from your garden is not just the uncertainty of what you may be introducing to your fish tank but also many types of rock like sandstone %26amp; chalk can seriously affect the pH of your tank. I would recommend using the pond or aqua safe pebbles from garden centres as these are completely neutral %26amp; fish-friendly %26amp; come in several attractive pastel colours!.
Clean the lot and boil the sand in some water to kill the bugs.

Then fill the tank again with all the bits you want but not the fish and put a couple of spoons of aluminium oxide into the water. Wait a couple of days and add some antifungus to the water as per directions on bottle and then add the fish again.
No antibiotics please! you can on the following procedure.

    1. empty the tank and allow it to dry.

    2. Apply the soap rinse, clean with fresh water and allow it to

    dry

    3. Repeat the clause no 2 above again

    4. Apply anti fungal medicine and follow instructions given

    5. After completing the above, refill the tank back all the stuff.

How do you treat fungus on feet?

My husband's feet are flaky and itchy, wondering what is the best thing to use?How do you treat fungus on feet?
Best is you see a Doctor first before starting treatments

unless you already know through medical test that it is Fungus also called Athele'sFood.

There are four different kinds, but Food Fungus is the more common one. Fungus grows best where it is warm,Bathrooms,Swimming pools

Usually the Doctor prescribes a Anti fungal topical Ointment to put direct on the affected Foot.

In severe cases you might have to take oral medication to treat from the Inside out.

Best Prevention is not to go barefooted in Pool areas and Bathrooms, wear Pool sandals, launder your socks regularly, best is socks made from natural material like cotton, keep your shoes dry and clean.

    Good Luck

    Greetings

from SeattleHow do you treat fungus on feet?
To rid yourself of a foot fungus problem you need to treat it on a daily basis, until the infected area clears up. Treatment for foot fungi is usually an over-the-counter medicated cream that you can purchase at your local pharmacy. This cream works by making newly grown skin cells resistant to the fungus. Treatment is applied every day to ensure the new cells remain resistant, while the foot fungus infected cells are eventually grown out and shed from the skin.
Tinactin works the best for my husband. The generics just don't work as good.

ask your doctor for a prescription to treat it and get blood tests.

Something that looks like fungus around remainder of food- fix with salt?

Some of the food that remained after I fed my fish, I have noticed, has something white and fuzzy around it. Is it fungus, or bacteria? My fish try to eat it. Is this bad? I've heard that I can use aquarium salt to fix it. Can it?Something that looks like fungus around remainder of food- fix with salt?
That stuff that looks like fungus.. it IS fungus.

Get a net or gravel vac and clean it out of the tank before it pollutes your water any more.

    And feed your fish less.

Aquarium salt wont do anyting apart from leaving you with salty polluted water, and dead fish.

IanSomething that looks like fungus around remainder of food- fix with salt?
Are you sure it's not because the food is absorbing in water and slowly dissolving?

Because for leftover food to look ';fuzzy'; after a little while is perfectly normal. It appears that way as it slowly absorbs the water. That's probably all it is. I've never seen fungus grow on leftover food - fungus will usually grow on the fish.
Yeah, they are right. Its mold, you over feed, and don't clean your tank. And just broadcast that to a lot of people here. hehe

I dare to say ... that you might open your fridge and most likely find something similar in there... Try salting that... see how it works for you
    Uneaten food ?

Just take it out of the tank. There is no reason to salt down a tank for something like that.

And yes, its bad. It means you don't keep your tank very clean.
yeah i had that problem to, i just netted it out as best i could and cut down the food supply.....that valerie's a bitchh

that is perfectly normal for the tank and the accessories to have that build up. Try and put it in a place where there is no direct sunlight. How do you remove fungus from wood?

A termite inspector told me that during his inspection in my crawlspace, he found areas where the insulation was down and sweating air condiioning pipes had caused fungus to develop. He said that it costs about $400 to get this removed professionally, but said you can get stuff at a store to remove it yourself. He also indicated that not doing something could lead to severe damage to the wood.

  • Is it safe to eat strawberries that show signs of fungus?

We usually just throw out strawberries that have fungus on them, but I just bought this box and was going to eat them when I saw a few small green spots. Can I just wash them off and eat them?Is it safe to eat strawberries that show signs of fungus?
For the most part, common household molds are harmless (unless taken in very large amounts) for humans. Some common molds are cobweb and Trichoderma, a very aggressive mold that has a white mycelium and then starts turning green when it starts to sportulate. The Aspergillus niger molds (they are usually black or yellow in color) are very dangerous but are not that common on food. At least not in urban places in the US.

You really can't be sure which of the thousands of fungi/bacterial contamination has infected your food unless you have a microscope, so it's best to just toss the item in question. However, if you feel you must eat the mold, you can do one of two things:

    1) Eat around it, but keep in mind that you will likely still be eating some of the mold because the questionable area you see on the surface of the food is usually only part of the contamination.

    2) Mold cannot survive on foods that have a moisture content less than 30%. You can dry the food in a dehydrator, which will kill bacteria and mold and make it safe to eat or store for later use.

    3) You can add salt or lime onto the contaminated area. This will make the area too basic (pH %26gt; 7) for the mold to survive, but read #1. You will likely not kill all of it. This method has another negative. It affects the taste of the food.Is it safe to eat strawberries that show signs of fungus?
Wash them, if they are mushy do not eat. The mold that generally grows on fruits is black or white or blue, not green. Cut off the green spots and see what is under them. If the flesh is allright they should be fine.
    eat around the fungus
Eww. That definitely sounds gross. If it was me, I would definitely wash them and see if they come off. If they looked ok after that from the inside and out, then I would eat them. My dad always told me that all food is ripe/too ripe. It just depends on your taste and what stage in ripeness you prefer to eat it at. If the small green spots wash off, and it looks ok to eat, then you're probably aok.
Dont take a chance. It might have bacterial culture living inside.
Well this may sound wierd but you can actually eat most fungus and it is extremly high in penecillin but make sure you aren't allergic first
I wouldnt take the chance...just throw them away..
why would you want to? Thats pretty gross and besides you dont want to chance making yourself sick. I would suggest tossing them and buying more.

How can I water my plants while I'm trying to let them dry out to kills fungus gnats?

The soil is pretty dry, but I'm hesitant to water for fear of those lurking beneath where I've sprayed soapy water. In the meantime, the plants are looking thirstier and thirstier. Replanting isn't an option, so how long do I need to wait to water while trying to let my treatments work on these little buggers? How can I water my plants while I'm trying to let them dry out to kills fungus gnats?
Go back to watering them. If you have a problem with fungus gnats, spray the plant soil with a 5% bleach solution and water normally. Might reapply after 2 weeks. If you know someone at the nursery you might get them to apply Ban-rot to the soil for you. At my nursery we spray all the greenhouses with this solution (bleach) to avoid this problem. The bleach will kill the fungus that attracts the gnats. How can I water my plants while I'm trying to let them dry out to kills fungus gnats?
I have the same problem. I let the soil dry quite well between waterings. But I water before the plants get too stressed to avoid further problems. I know which plant brought them in the house and although I repotted all the house plants this summer, the same one that brought them still has the most gnats. So maybe keep your eye on certain plants and segregate to another room. Also, when the plants are dry, the gnats sometimes hang out in the bathroom and/or bathroom drains. I also leave spider webs if one winds up around the dirt and sometimes a spider helps catch some. Maybe we could try some kind of a mesh around the pot and stem to trap them in??? I just thought of that. Some kind of a really thin breathable material... Also, I would personally never put ANY bleach or other toxic material on a plant.
do you like to drink coffee? spread the used grounds as a mulch layer around your plants and water as you normally would. this is an organic way to control insects.
The whole point in letting them ';dry out'; is NOT to water them!.... Don't water most plants until you can put your finger into the soil and tell it is COMPLETELY dry.
Don't know how long it takes but it's not worth letting your plants die of thirst. Then the entire process will be for nothing.
These little things seem to every where this year. Thanks for asking this question. Now I can try to solve one of my problems.

The Mycobiont: The fungal mutualist may belong to one of over 500 genera and over 13,500 species of lichen-forming fungi ---about 20% of known fungal species Although a few are Basidiomycota (about 20 species) or deuteromycetes, most are Ascomycota, coming from 16 orders, 5 of which are entirely composed of lichen-forming fungi. Lichenized and non-lichenized fungi may occur in the same order. Taxonomically, the lichenized fungi are widely distributed in the Ascomycota. It is not known whether the fungal partners have an extensive independent existence in nature.

Try to get this Prazi-Pro. Melafix is good for wounds, and pimafix is good for most fungus and infections. PraziPro will work against flukes (also gill flukes). It is much used by discus owners. It contains Praziquantel, which will kill the parasites by making them contract themselves to death. So there's a little bit risk with using it. The parasites can burst under their contractions, and that will lead to infections. What is a good natural herbal treatment for scalp fungus?

I got some little bumps on the back of my head like mosquito bites that itch and the hair is falling out in a big patch. The bumps seem to move around and the hair falls out where they are. Any suggestions? What is a good natural herbal treatment for scalp fungus?
try tea tree oil, it is an antifungal.

I have a freshwater tank and it has a fungus infection. What would be the best way to clean the decorations?

I want to try to clean it so that the fungus dosent stay on the ornaments and so it dosen't reinfest the tank.I have a freshwater tank and it has a fungus infection. What would be the best way to clean the decorations?
Bleach is the perfect fungus killer but there are a couple things to watch out for. Plastic/PolyResin ornaments can be bleached and cleaned off fairly safely but there are some things to be careful of.

Rocks like lavarock and limestone can absorb the bleach because they are pourous. So can driftwood. Usually rinsing is not enough to ensure these are ready to go back to the tank. The safest techniqe is to soak it in bleach for 24 hours then a pure water bath for 2 to 7 days. A dechlorinator in the water can help speed up that process. Also completely drying the ornament in the sun is reccomened. I know this seems time consuming but you do not want to add bleach to your tank as it will quickly kill your fish.I have a freshwater tank and it has a fungus infection. It would be fine if you just scrube them with a sponge (no soap) and then just rinse them throughtly with hot water.
Every time I clean my freshwater tank I soak my tank decorations in a solution of 5 gallons water and 1/4 - 1/2 cup bleach. It literally cleans all the yucky black build up off my decorations. I make sure after they are clean that I rinse them really good. I have a well established tank - several years old and this is what was advised to me when I set it up. I think it would also help your fungus issue. Good luck.
first you have to get the water tested before you put the fish in the water/buy then\m

Is there a ';home remedy'; for getting rid of fungus on coleus plants?

I have grown many coleus plants. Once I grew one 6ft tall, and 3 feet wide. ( grown from one hanging plant 10'') I take them out and put them in a larger pot. If it does not drain well or is watered too much it will develop a fungus; there are ';fungus Killers'; at a garden center to spray on them.Is there a ';home remedy'; for getting rid of fungus on coleus plants?
    They need more air.

Get a fungicide from the plant store.

Yes - I think it is called Lamasil - it is expensive, but it works.
I dont know about that but there probably is. I have heard that Listerine is good for that though, no kidding.
Yeah, my dad used to take a prescription for it %26amp; it really worked. ask your Dr. they do make you take blood tests every once in awhile, b/c it can affect your liver function.
lamisil ointment for the areas and I believe that there is an oral medication as well.Ask your Dr
Try teatree oil. A massage therapist recommended it to a friend of mine. You can find it at any health food store. Apply liberally before bedtime everyday.
Try rubbing chopped garlic. The oils after being pressed or cut will release and this is what you want to apply on your nail. This is the most natural way to treat nail fungus on a daily basis.
    Lamisil

    Somsin

and there are some natural remedies too
there are things at walmart you can use, but if the infection is too bad, you'll have to go to the doctor.

My husband used Vick's Vapor Rub to get rid of it. He tried it for several weeks and it really works. There are pills out there but our doctor told us that for the most part that they do more harm than good. They can damage your liver so you have to be evalutaed closely by your doctor to make sure it is not doing any damage.
Lamisil was not advised by my doctor since you have to be treated for liver damage later. Lamisil also takes about 6 months to cure it.

My doctor described the toenail fungus liquid that you brush on every day (twice a day if possible) in any drugstore and it works in a little over two months.
Yep, cant tell you its name but their commercial mascot is called ';Digger';. Lamisil maybe? Good Luck its out there ....
    yes, by prescription.
There is a pill (Lamisil), but my girlfirend's dad (who is a family practice physician) says it doesn't work very well. Pills are a systemic form of treatment because the medicine gets in your bloodstream, and toenail fungus is a local problem (it's only in the one spot, on your toes). He recommends trimming down the nails as far as you possibly can and soaking your toes in peroxide. Keep doing this, trimming and soaking, until the fungus goes away. Toenails don't grow very fast so it may take awhile, but he says this is the absolute best way to get rid of it.
I have seen the commercials on TV but forget what it's called. They have super cute ';Fungus Creatures'; though.
    Lamisil, I think
there are a few of them, go see a doctor
There is a pill that your doc can prescribe or you can use Lamisil over the counter cream. You can get it at Dollar General or Walgreens.
yup but its prescription only so make doc. apptmt and they will give you one thats best for you
    Lamisil
yes there is such a drug it comes in both a cream and a pill.

there is another way that is cheap and works great.

put some water in a bucket put one or two cap fulls of bleach in the water. soak feet for 10 min or more say 15 min.

rinse feet in clear water. dry feet well. this will do the same thing as the medication. the only thing you have to watch is that you dont pour in too much bleach that can cause a chemical burn . but you would know if that was happening as it is slow and it itches. if you do that just rinse feet in cool water for a while and use less bleach next time .

you should do this every day until its all better.
Yes, there definetely is. My mom has very bad toenail fungus, and her feet to put it nicely stink!

She visited the doctor and he gave her a prescription. The drug was something like flixoline. (sp)?
hammer in a screw driver under your toe nail and rip it off, then you won't have to worry about the fungus as the blood and air will dry it out.

What should i do if my turtle has foot fungus?

Do I need to buy any medicine? What kind? Where can I buy it? How much does it cost? What should i do if my turtle has foot fungus?
You need to take your turtle (JUST LIKE ANY OTHER PET) to a veterinarian to have the problem properly diagnosed, and medication prescribed for it. No, you don't have a choice--you are legally responsible for providing medical care for your pets, and neglecting to do so is a crime. If you cannot afford a vet, then release your animal to a reptile rescue or shelter. Over-the-counter treatments for reptile health problems are insufficient.

1.Oregano oil is an excellent topical agent for toenail and fingernail fungus. Highly diluted oil may also be taken internally for the same conditions.

2.Fungal infections of both fingernails and toenails can sometimes be resolved by using vinegar and honey. Place one tablespoon of each in a glass of water and drink once per day. This remedy isn't effective as the Oregano Oil or Tea tree oil.
Try Vick's VapoRub. It is said to be very effective.
There are two kinds of vinigar but the regular kind works well and the funky smelling kind kills fruit flys if left in a dish all day
You might try using a Oreganic Oregano Oil diluted with the Tea Tree Oil. The Oregano Oil can also be used internally to treat any number of fungus. The Oregano Oil that I use is 300% more concentrated than the ones you may find in most retail stores. You will take this Oregano Oil in capsules and you will probably want to take with food. I would add probiotic to your regimen as well. This well help your to generate more of the good bacteria. The product that I use regularly is called Latero-Flora. You might also want to do a parasite cleanse.
Actually Vics Vapor Rub works really good for this

Please identify this fungus on the trunk of a tree in my backyard?

There is a white fungus on the base of a large tree in my backyard. I took pictures of it, but there is nowhere to post them on Yahoo Answers. I have an Ortho Gardeners book that seems to identify it as Armillaria root rot (oak root fungus). It says there is nothing I can do but make sure it doesn't spread to nearby trees by removing the tree and destroying the root system. It says that if the tree isn't that badly damaged, that I can remove the soil and cut out the wood in that area. Is that correct? Does anybody have experience with this and have any advice? Please identify this fungus on the trunk of a tree in my backyard?
If the fungus if fan shaped and flat against the tree, After you peel off some bark to look at it. Also, if you have light tan mushrooms, real ones blooming at the base of the tree, then you have OAK FUNGUS, Cut down the tree, destroy Burn the wood and then have some one cover the spot with Methyl Bromide! SORRY!

If you don't have any fan shaped stuff crawling up the tree under the bark and you never had any mushroom blooms at the base of the tree, then chances are that you don't have Oak Fungus.

If you do have it...look on the UP side, the mushrooms are eatable AFTER they are cooked and are quite good! Please identify this fungus on the trunk of a tree in my backyard?

because there are black material caused by vapour i think.i don't know what they called.help please. What can i use to clean and remove fungus in my barthroom wall and ceilling?
A mixture of bleach and water should do the trick, but be careful. What can i use to clean and remove fungus in my barthroom wall and ceilling?
If you have black mold, it could be hazardous to your health, and growing in places you can't treat. You may want to consider bringing in an expert who can determine what the problem is.

If you'd rather just deal with it and hope for the best... Scrub the area down with diluted ammonia. Spray thoroughly with lysol or a similar product. Paint over with Kilz.

In order to prevent more mold, you probably need to check to make sure that your bathroom vent is working and properly installed. The fan in the bathroom ceiling removes excess moisture before it can cause problems... After showering, turn on the fan to remove the steam, or you'll just have more mold.
I recommend a product known as Physan 20 or Triple Action 20. I heard it is the same formula created by two brothers who split the business and went separate ways. You can search each of these and find links to buy them.

The product is safe to use, and kills mold and mildew. I've used Triple Action 20 in a dilute form to kill plant diseases like Anthracnose, and Fire Blight. It is amazing!
Tilex is actually bleach-based. So, you can go with a home-made product, if you want. Make a diluted mixture of bleach and water (you can fill the sink with it) and mop your ceiling and walls with a sponge-mop. You can fill your tub with a few inches of clear water to periodically clean out the sponge mop. Empty your sink and tub (bleach solution shouldn't sit too long on any chrome or other metal in there...drain, etc. ) Wait about 15 or 20 minutes until the black stuff disappears. Then, refill your tub with clear water to help rinse off the bleach solution with that same mop. This is all assuming your walls and ceiling are painted with a washable paint. If your walls are tile, you can spray (fill one of those plastic mist bottles ) them with the solution, let it sit for 15 or 20 minutes, and rinse. If that doesn't work, it is safe to apply straight bleach to tile (especially necessary for the grout because that fungus gets into the porous material), wait 15 or 20 minutes, then gently scrub with a scrub-brush or rough sponge. (Gently...this can get messy because the scrubbing may make splatters.) Open any windows or doors in the bathroom for necessary ventilation while working and while the solution is doing it's thing. Wear protective gloves, and be careful not to splatter on your clothing (white spots!) and especially not on your face. (If you aren't confident in your technique, you may want to put on some protective eye-glasses. You absolutely don't want to get bleach in your eyes...there should be warnings on the bottle about what to do if that happens.) Again, all surfaces should be rinsed well afterward with clear water. The fumes can be unhealthy, and can actually lightly bleach fabrics in the area.

Of course, this is all assuming that black stuff is fungus, although I don't know what else it might be.

    Good luck!
    bleach water
Have you tried a bleach spray or bleach and water mixture. Love it in my bathroom. Use it weekly.
Yes, it's clorox . If it's on your walls or ceiling, which I get here, I put a squirt of dish soap and clorox together in a bucket and use a mop thats wrung out and hit the ceiling and walls.

I have had luck with Clorox Cleanup for the grout on the tile around the tub. Might have to sit awhile. Open the windows, or get out, don't hang around in a small area.
there is a tilex mildew remover but it doesnt smell nice i would use a 10% bleach solution and the rough side of a sponge
Tilex or bleach and a rough sponge.
Tilex mold/mildew works great. Be careful where you spray, it's essentialy a spray bottle with bleach
I use undiluted bleach from a spray bottle. Protect you eyes and don't breath it in...

Rinse it off after about 10 minutes.
i haven't found a chemical at the store that works as well as the bleach/water spray bottle... just use it in a well venataled area and dint use a lot of bleach.. let it sit for 15 minutes then rinse off....
I would suggest Bleach and Water. After you get all the Black marks off the ceiling. Maybe you should paint it with a enamel,or gloss, I had the same problem, and since we painted ,it has been OK.
mold from the moisture, put clorox in a spray bottle and spray the walls and ceiling and floor of the shower each time after you shower. put a small fan in the bathroom and point it at the shower and let it blow in there for at least an hour or all day if you wish.
you can use various things to clean the infested areas, yes I said infested mold is actually a living organism.

Clorox/bleach is a cheap way out.Might want to clean with a timbor or moldicide.

The main reason you accumulated mold growth is because of inadequate ventilation. If you are going to try and tackle this yourself make certain you wear a respirator.

What should I do about an unknown horse fungus?

I have recently purchased a flea-bitten appendix quarter horse. After an inspection I noticed that he had small sores on his chest and it appears as if his skin is peeling. This also happens on his back legs. To the best of my knowledge, he has not recently had any blankets or leg boots on to promote this. Can anyone identify this and give me an efficient treatment? Thank you very much. What should I do about an unknown horse fungus?
Only way to be sure is to have a vet come and look, take a sample if needed, and send it out to a lab for evaluation.

Having said that, however, I've seen people use Repel-X fly spray concentrate at the wrong dilution (even the right one) and had their horses peel. It looks like little flakes of grey skin, usually on the chest, neck and/or belly area. I'd switch to another more mild fly spray, like Citronella oil, or Bronco, and use sparingly. I'd avoid wiping product on; be sure to set your sprayer at a fine mist and don't drench his coat.

As for the hind legs, is the hair coming off in chunks if you scratch with a fingernail, or curry? Little tufts of grey clumps with the short haircoat attached? Leaves a thin-not-quite-bald spot behind? If so, I'd call that the creeping crud. Comes from improper grooming.

In order to rid your horse of this (this area has very little to do with flyspray), use a rubber-mit curry to gently scruff up the hair along the legs. Incidentally, this usually happens on the front of the hind cannons and to the rear/ below the rear leg's chestnuts.

Once you've curried the hair up, head to the washstall and use warm water with a gentle soap. I like Absorbine's Santa-Fe, or even Ivory dish soap. Use that same rubber-mit curry and apply soap using a gentle currying motion. Later up, rinse well, repeat. Several times.

It's not unusual to have to do this lather/ rinse cycle 4+ times to completely eliminate it. If the crud is especialy severe, your horse won't tolerate this washing all at once. You may make him bleed. If you see any signs of raw or even pink skin, stop and do your 2nd or 3rd cycle of wash/ rinse several days to a week or so later.

Always dry thoroughly in between washing, and always brush off dried mud and old sweat after rides to stop this recurring.

Again, without seeing this, it's hard to say, which is why I recommend the vet to evaluate it. But it sounds like the two conditions outlined above. Nothing serious, and easily cured.

Best of luck. What should I do about an unknown horse fungus?
It is a simple matter to have your vet take a cell scraping and actually identify the problem. In the long run, you save yourself money spent on wrong treatments, and you save your horse from the aggravation of the condition while you play guessing games on treatment alternatives. So, I guarantee you that no one on this computer can positively identify the skin condition your horse has. Also, each condition is treated differently according to what it is. So, unless you have the vet test the tissue and accurately identify the condition, you might as well be blindfolded in the dark and hoping to hit the bulls-eye with an arrow. Also, I.m curious as to why you assume this is a fungus?
This type of fungus could be from poor grooming prior to you purchasing the horse. The cleaning could have just brought this to light.

A good fungicide is mixing 1 part bleach to 10 parts water. Wash the area and rinse with the solution.

This could be a good start. Should it progresses or if it is scabbing or draining, I would call the vet.

    Good Luck.
I'm not really sure because i've never seen or heard of a condition like that but i would call ur vet and explain to him/her what is happening. Maybe he can tell u what it is and what u need to do. If nt, he may need to come out to your house or wherever ur horse is and take a look at him. For now, i would put some medication/ointment on it. You can find this at your closest Equine or Livestock store. TSC (Tractor Supply Company) carries a wide variety of ointments and medications that might help...

Good Luck and i hope your horse is better soon!
It could be an irritation because of feed or a rash of some kind... I would call your vet and bring him out to look at it just incase. Keep track of any spreading and pay attention to it until the vet can come out. Try not to give it any unusual supplements or feed. Sorry I don't have better advice! Good luck!

What do you think of people with toenail fungus?

Does it ruin their looks for you?

Also, when someone has it, is it very noticeable, or do people not really pay attention. What do you think of people with toenail fungus?
They are gross to look at but I'd hope that someone who had it would go see a podiatrist and get this problem cleared up. I understand it takes a long time to clear up so I'm sympathetic. The only way it would ruin their looks is if I KNEW they didn't care enough to get it taken care of because their nails were so gross it was obvious they just let it go.What do you think of people with toenail fungus?
Yes, I do notice it. Women should go to the salon to have a pedicure to help improve the appearance of those thick toenails.
I think they need to clean their feet and get some medication for them. It doesn't change the way I feel about them.

now if it was my husband, I'd kill him!

Why did that fungus kill my zinnias?

It started growing about a month ago. I don't believe in using pesticides, so I didn't do anything to stop it. It finally killed the smaller plants, and is on its way to getting the larger ones.

What could I have done to prevent this? I grew zinnias last year (in the same spot) and they lasted a long time, without fungus. Why did that fungus kill my zinnias?
From reading your question, I understand that you need two things. First, let’s determine the problem. Two, you don't like pesticides and you want to know how you could have prevented this problem without the use of pesticides.

PROBLEM: Zinnias can be affected by any number of fungal and bacterial pathogens. Though powdery mildew is common, so is Botrytis (gray mold) %26amp; Alternaria blight. Other pathogens we should consider are root and stem rots %26amp; bacterial leaf spots. Following is a brief description of the symptoms and signs for each disease. This list should aid you in determining your problem. No valid solution should ever be proposed without first identifying the causal agent.

POWDERY MILDEW: A white to light gray powder on the upper surface of the leaf. This powder is easily rubbed off with your fingers. http://www.ppdl.purdue.edu/PPDL/images/p…

BOTRYTIS: A tan to gray, fuzzy mold. http://chatham.ces.ncsu.edu/growingsmall…

ALTERNARIA BLIGHT: Reddish brown spots with grayish centers; round at first, then becoming irregular in shape. http://www.ces.ncsu.edu/chatham/ag/SustA…

ROOT %26amp; STEM ROTS: Spots appear on the stem near the soil level or on roots; plants wilt %26amp; die. Sorry, no picture.

BACTERIA LEAF SPOT: Small brown spots surrounded by a yellow halo appear on the leaves. Bacterial leaf spot in on the right (Alternaria blight is on the left): http://www.mobot.org/gardeninghelp/image…

CONTROL: Now let’s talk about resolution. This is your second year planting zinnias in the same spot. You need to do good fall clean-up. Remove all old zinnia stems and leaves. This is where the fungal inoculum overwinters. Improve air flow around %26amp; through your zinnias. Do not plant as dense a stand of zinnias. At the first sign of a disease, remove the affected material from you zinnia’s garden bed. Burn, bury (at least 12” below ground) or discard this material in the trash. DO NOT let it multiply and spread. Do not work in the garden when leaves are wet, you spread the disease this way. Do not overhead water your zinnias. Water in the morning so soils have a chance to dry out before the evening.

POWDERY MILDEW: Plant mildew resistant varieties. Improve the drainage of your garden soil. Do not water late in the day so that the area is moist at night. Spray a mix of skim milk (1 part) and water (9 parts) every 7-14 days when weather favors powdery mildew formation (cool %26amp; humid). Baking soda works buts it’s a mess to mix. Potassium bicarbonate is safe, non-toxic and an organic bicarbonate like baking soda that you can purchase (Kaligreen).

BOTRYTIS: Like powdery mildew, botrytis is a disease of humid conditions, so improve the drainage of your garden soil. Do not water late in the day so that the area is moist at night. Remove infected leaves. Most fungicides that control botrytis will affect the blooms of zinnia; therefore, sanitation is your best control. Remove infected leaves and flower buds.

ALTERNARIA BLIGHT: Do not plant zinnias in the same spot year after year if you have Alternaria blight. Plant disease resistant varieties. Treat seeds in 125 degree water for 30 minutes, let cool and dry before sowing. Fungicides can be use to prevent.

ROOT %26amp; STEM ROTS: Improve the drainage of your garden soil. Do not use heavy layers of organic mulch. Do not keep soils excessively wet. Do not pile soil onto the stems. Avoid crowding plants. Make sure plants have balanced nutrient levels. Remove affected plants.

BACTERIA LEAF SPOT: Plant known bacteria free plants/seeds. Mulch to prevent rain water splashing. Do not overhead water. Water early in the morning. Remove infected plants.

Jim (AWLG)Why did that fungus kill my zinnias?
    You have powdery mildew.

Too much moisture, not enough air movement and probably light.

Plant correctly or use a fungicide.

Now go drink a beer and plan next year design.
Do you mean a black fungus or a white powdery mildew (looks like someone dusted the leaves with baby powder)?

You can get fungicides at better nurseries that are made out of neem oil (it's organic). At the first sign of infestation, spray the oil on (it comes in a spray bottle) to soak the leaves. For white powdery mildew, use a strong, fine spray of water (not so strong that it damages the plant) to wash the white powder off before applying the neem oil spray. You may have to reapply the spray every week or so. But, it should control the problem.

Also, before you replant anything in the affected area, remove all ground covering, mulch, leaves, etc., from the area. The fungus and mildew spores are still present and they can get blown up onto your plants. Scrape it all away, put it in a trash bag, and throw it in the garbage.
    it didnt like em .
You answered your own question. Are you talking about powdery mildew? (gray fuzzy fungus on leaves). This is what happens when conditions are right and when you don't believe in using fungicides. If you don't take precautionary measures with the plants and flowers in your landscape, eventually they will be overtaken by disease, fungus, or insects. There's just no getting around it. ';If'; you had treated them with a fungicide throughout the growing season, this wouldn't have happened.

    **Billy Ray**
It was likely the soil was too moist and the plants were too thickly planted (too close together)

I had a similar problem one year..it was basically like a mold..

lack of circulation between the stems

What is that fungus on the back and on the front of my horses back legs?

I tried scrubbing it and someone told me to pul it off. I did but it took off the hair there and bled a little so i stopped. It didnt hurt him though. How do I get it off and what is it?What is that fungus on the back and on the front of my horses back legs?
It's grunge. Pretty common. Your best bet is to get some MicroTek Shampoo and Spray and treat it as directed on the bottle. Curry it gently a little bit each day. It's ok if it bleeds a little bit, but be gentle and if it bothers your horse, stop for the day. To prevent it from coming back, be sure to clean your horse's legs on a regular basis and dry them with a towel when wet.

The most common cause of stuff on the horse's back legs are body oils from when he or she lies down. The private parts have lots of oil and it gets on the legs when the legs are tucked under him/her.

The thing that will clean it would be a gentle cleaner, like shampoo, or goop, or even Tide.

Be gentle because the skin is very tender. You don't want your horse's legs to bleed.

    Good luck with your boy.
its rain rot. my 8 month old colt had it on all of his legs. his is from being in a wet pasture. their isnt alot of rain but the morning dew on the grass is what caused his. our grass in the pasture is very tall which is the only reason my colt got it only on his legs. we washed him in a diluted iodine mixture and it cleared up after 2 washes.

What are the different types of plants and fungus that have a sumbiotic relationship?

this can either be mualistic, commensalism, or parasitic, but cannot be an plant and animal relationship. What are the different types of plants and fungus that have a sumbiotic relationship?
The most common I know are legumes with Rhizobium leguminosarum, a nitrogen-fixing bacteria. They are symbiotic on the roots and are housed in root nodules. Symbiotic relationship between plants and soil fungi is termed mycorrhizae. I'm sorry I think this is what you are looking for but I don't know any example.

Symbiotic relationship between ';only some plants'; and ascomycotycotan and basidiomycotan fungi is ';lichen';. I emphasized that there are only some plants because lichen is actually the term for symbiotic relationship between a chlorophyllous organism and a fungi (from Ascomycota and Basidiomycota). The chlorophyllous organisms are more often than not, algae or cyanobacteria.\

If you say symbiotic, they are not parasitic, because parasites harm the host while a symbiotic relationship benefits both organisms. But parasitic fungi on plants as my answer would be the following:

corn smut (Ustilago zeae) on corn

wheat rust (Puccinia graminis) on wheat

Ganoderma parasitizing tree trunks by growing on it

arranged like shelves, hence the term, shelf fungi.

These are only a few. Hope I helped. :-)What are the different types of plants and fungus that have a sumbiotic relationship?
Glomeromycetes form arbuscular mycorrhizae with plants

they acually live inside the plant cells and look like little trees

And all Lichens are fungi that live in impossibly close relationships with algae. So much so that if they were separated, they would each die. The algae photosynthesises and feeds the fungus, and the fungus protects and harbors the algae.

  • How do you determine if there is a fungus in your lawn?

If so, how would you eliminate it without using chemicals? How do you determine if there is a fungus in your lawn?
Where ever you live ..there should be an extension office. You can take a small sample of your lawn into them and they will do a soil test and let you know exactly what fungus it is and how to help rid your lawn of it.

Get Mario or Luigi to come and take it, they will need it to turn into Super mario and defeat Bowser.
look for moss, mold, mushrooms, black spots, white spots. the only way to kill it without chems is to stop watering and seriously dry out the soil. usually the grass dies first.... better off with the chems.
Fungal diseases in turfgrasses are uncommon. Sometimes mushrooms will grow from lawn soil, but these are rarely harmful. For more information, you can Skype katjawahrhaftig.
Me had a good point, but I think you should call a professional.
