What can you use to treat a fungus that causes skin discoloration?

I have a few skin patches that are lighter than the rest of my body. A few years ago a doctor told me that it was due to fungus, but I forgot what he said I could use to treat it.What can you use to treat a fungus that causes skin discoloration?
Best to get something prescription strength. That over-the-counter stuff doesn't seem to keep it away for good. Lamasil is a good one. It's literally a couple pills, but should clear it up.

If you're not keen on going to get a prescription, you can try the stuff sold in the pharmacy. Best bet is to ask the pharmacist for a good one.

I should mention, and I know it's none of my business, but would you consider getting this treated soon? It's real contagious and if left untreated, it can spread and potentially get into your blood stream to cause a host of more serious probs. What can you use to treat a fungus that causes skin discoloration?
Roundup
Any type of a anti-fungal cream should work. You can usually find it in the foot-care aisle or in the first-aid cream section of any store. This type of cream is also used for foot fungus %26amp; vaginal itching!
If it's a fungus it's probably tinea versicolor. It can be killed with many OTC antifungal creams, look in the section for athlete's foot cream! Athlete's foot is tinea as well. You don't need a systemic or prescription medication unless the infection is extensive or difficult to cure. But if OTC stuff doesn't work go back to the doctor and they can confirm the diagnosis and give you something stronger.
