What is the best cure for toenail fungus?

I hear the medications by prescription are expensive and are not covered by most insurances because they are considered as cosmetic. Is there anything to get rid of it? Home remedies or over the counter that work? What is the best cure for toenail fungus?
My Mom used both Nonyx Nail gel and I think the other was called Restore, they both worked great but Restore (if I have the name right)is the best medication of the two you can buy OTC. Some home remedies that can be used is tea tree oil, bleach, grapeseed extract, and vics vaporub. Vics helps to decrease the thickness of the nails and helps in peeling off of layers of the nail. Buy a product that is a gel, solution or spray. Creams tend to not be as effective on the nails. Rough up the nail surface with a file before applying the med for better penetration. Plan on treating it evry day for about 6 to8 months either way you go.

Good Luck! What is the best cure for toenail fungus?

Nature's antiseptic, otherwise known as tea tree oil. You can get it at any pharmacy for a few bucks. It's stinky, but it works. I had really bad nail fungus from acrylics years ago, and after trying everything under the sun, including prescriptions that did nothing, someone told me about tea tree oil and it worked like a charm. It may take a few a weeks to a couple of months, but with daily use it will work. I've told several others about it and it worked for them too.

My son used it on a toenail fungus once and it was gone in 2 weeks.
Dr. Gott gets a lot of people writing in who say Vicks Vapo-rub works. It's cheap and easy to get but it might take months. I have black spots on 3 nails and I don't know what to do because Vicks isn't going to stay on there.
lotramin a.f. is good its one of the same meds that is rx, but a lot cheaper!
don't know if it works, but read to soak your feet in listerine mouthwash
home remedy=Epsom salts in hot water and soak the feet =good luck
Dr. G's at Sally Beauty Supply..its about $20.00 per bottle, but if you have the Sally Card it'll be around $10.00. I used to work at Sally Beauty Supply and Nail Tech will buy this products for their client or a customer will use it and tell me the next time they come in that the fungus is gone.
your not to specific of what kind of fungus you have so ill answer as if it was under the toe. If it is under the toe nail you will have to see the doctor because the only way to get to the fungus is through the blood stream. perscription no home remedies for that one.
